On 3 November 2025, the Rectorate of the University of Córdoba hosted a day dedicated to “Investing in the decarbonisation of livestock farming”, organised by our Spanish partners ASOPROVAC and COVAP.
The day opened with an introduction by Matilde Moro (ASOPROVAC), followed by a presentation from Irene de Tovar Hernandez, Senior Policy Advisor for Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change at COPA-COGECA, on the Methodology for Carbon Regulation in Livestock Farming. This session sparked a discussion with the audience on the challenges of defining eligible activities, ensuring methodological consistency, and guaranteeing the practical feasibility of estimating GHG emissions and carbon storage in livestock farming.
Javier Piquer, Deputy Director for Livestock Production Means at MAPA, presented “Addressing Environmental Obligations in Cattle Farming”, highlighting national perspectives on environmental challenges in livestock production.
Anaïs L’Hôte (IDELE), Coordinator of the LIFE Carbon Farming project, introduced the project’s objectives, actions implemented on pilot farms, and the first results from carbon audits and cost assessments.
Roberto Jimenez (ASOPROVAC) then shared the results from the Spanish farms involved in the project, before Rafaela Herrera García (COVAP) presented COVAP’s Sustainability Strategy and Model.
The day concluded with a Q&A session and closing remarks.
The following day, the European partners gathered for a working session to plan the next steps of the project and strengthen collaboration across countries.
